About Root + Spoon

Welcome to Root and Spoon. I’m Ally. A plant-based chef, health and culinary coach, mom of a 4-year-old boy, plant-medicine maker, and soon to be licensed master social worker.

I bring my love of all thing’s plants and socially conscious engagement to inform and educate those who are plant-curious.

I’ve managed busy and innovative vegan kitchens in NYC and Cayman Islands, catered non-profit organizations, and have worked as a private chef. I’ve studied nutrition, botany, agriculture, herbal medicine, yoga, reiki, public health, social work, and cooking. Everything from root to spoon.

My main focus is on plant-based wellness, but I believe all elements of deep health: mental, emotional, physical, existential, relational, and environmental are crucial to finding balance and optimal health.

I’m a New Yorker at heart but have called Cayman Islands my home for the past 8 years. I can be found playing in the dirt, ocean, or mashing up the kitchen with my 4-year sous chef. I am a scuba diver, nomad, music lover, silly dancer, star gazer, idealist, and seeker of vitality and optimal living.

More About Me….

My educational and experiential background has shaped my skill set to offer tailor made programs and meals to my clients.

I attended vegan culinary school at Living Light in California. This program has been the driving force behind utilizing the tools of culinary medicine.

Through Harvard Institute of Lifestyle Medicine Culinary Coaching program I am able focus on offering lessons in home cooking specifically as a control and management of health conditions and to increase positive health outcomes.

I am a graduate of Precision Nutrition’s health coaching program, which taught me how to guide people in optimizing their health and find their true potential through lifestyle adjustments. I learned the importance of holding space and accountability for clients who wish to make positive changes in their lives or just need a friendly nudge and support.

As I transition into social work, I bring my love of plant-based food into the next chapter. I use my life experiences, social work values, and skills to empower and improve the lives of others who choose to embark on healing diets and may feel overwhelmed with how to cook, or how to make time to cook.

Through meal plans, coaching, and private cooking lessons, I educate and celebrate those wanting to uplevel their quality of life in this way. I am committed to understanding the dietary needs and restrictions of my clients, without sacrificing creativity or the satisfaction that they deserve from food. My clients are conscious people who are wanting to experience a new relationship with food that’s less stressful and more enjoyable.

Whether you connect with me as a chef, culinary, or health coach, or just want to browse the blog and recipe section. I’m so happy you found me! I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or just want to say hi!

I also love working with and meeting like-minded individuals and brands for any collaborations, custom recipe creation, product features, or just to share a great idea. It would be wonderful to hear from you!
